There are a number of reasons why we lace up our shoes to run. For me, running has always been theraputic, challenging, invigorating, and just one more thing at which I could be competitive.

My mother was recently diagnosed with Cancer. Being 10,000km from her side doesn't make things easier, but it makes us work harder to stay in touch. The Cancer she has is spread throughout her body so much that the doctors can't determine it's origin. So we have some big hurdles to get over. I can't help but feel helpless being so far away, so I've decided to do something to make an impact. Something that even if it can't help my mother, it would someday help someone else.

I've decided to do one of the things I do best; run. I'm going to run for the  Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I feel like it's the very least I can do, but I feel like I should do something. This is my opportunity to use what I love to help someone else, and I'm happy about that. I'm very fortunate to have people who support me and cheer me on, and even people who are sweet enough to wait for me at the finish line with a bottle of water.

So now I don't just run for "the love", I also run for "the lives".
